a long article, but a good one, that manages to cover most of what i'm thinking about academically these days, one way or another. anthony lewis, whom i read for constitutional law last semester, explains at length how the treatments of american citizens designated "enemy combatants" turns _gideon v. wainwright_ on its head. along the way he offers an explanation of why the american political process doesn't protect indigent defendants, and why the administration's arguments on the issue of "enemy combatants" are "just sophistry." read the whole thing; i dare you.
