this admissions stuff is sure some crazy shit.
i received an extremely thin envelope from nyu law yesterday, and promptly placed it in the recycling.
but the numbers, oh, the numbers...on the numbers, i understand not getting into harvard. i pretty much understand getting into michigan and usc law. i do not fully understand getting into yale, nor do i fully understand not getting into ucsd or nyu law.
there are several options. in descending order of plausibility:
1. God wants me to be an academic, not a lawyer, and has arranged my life accordingly.
2. All first-tier schools in any discipline are actually just drawing names out of hats.
3. They really don't care about your numbers and are actually, honestly, evaluating such things as essays and recommendations.
