i read the article in question as well, and i couldn't agree more. brooks is a hackety-hack-hack-hack. i don't know where he grew up, but in the suburbia i remember, mcmansions and utopianism are basically mutually exclusive. suburbia as we know it is bad for the environment, bad for our health (hey friends! let's live in a place that makes us drive *everywhere*!), culturally exclusive...the list goes on. i'm sure there's a smart way to do suburbia, but brooks's little ode to Life By the Golf Course doesn't hold water.
